AROHE and Road Scholar’s Partnership

AROHE and Road Scholar’s partnership through the AROHE (Association of Retiree Organizations in Higher Education)  Travel Institute offers exclusive educational adventures for retired and current college and university faculty, staff and their family and friends. The Institute’s 2027 offerings and enrollment deadlines are as follows: 

Signature City Asheville 

Enrollment deadline: August 25, 2026 

Head for the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina April 25-30, 2027, to discover the art deco architecture, thriving arts scene and unique history that make Asheville a signature American city. Hear expert analysis on the Vanderbilt family’s influence on the city, and learn why the preservation of the downtown makes it a living museum of mid-century architecture. Join experts on explorations of Asheville’s most significant sites and historic properties like the lavish Biltmore Estate, and enjoy the artistic and culinary delights of Asheville’s thriving downtown. Trains, Cherokee and Culture in the Southern Appalachian Mountains 

Enrollment deadline: September 9, 2026 

Capture scenic views and learn about Appalachian culture May 9-14, 2027, aboard two trains in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains. Hear stories from the area’s long history and enjoy a delightful encounter with Great Smokies heritage as presented by a musician performing tunes of Southern Appalachia. Learn about Cherokee Indian life in the “enchanted land” centuries ago during evening lectures and a special visit from an expert on Cherokee history and song. Hopi Mesas and Navajo Lands of Canyon de Chelly and Monument Valley 

Enrollment deadline: January 26, 2027 

Stay on both the Navajo and Hopi reservations and immerse yourself in these cultures September 26-October 2, 2027, with exposure to native speakers and artisans who share insights into their life ways. Visit one of the oldest Hopi villages atop a windswept mesa. At Canyon de Chelly, field trips visit both north and south rims and the inner Canyon. Hit the streets of the Great White Way September 27-October 1, 2027, and discover the excitement of New York’s incredible theater scene, from Broadway events to the adventurous Off-Broadway stage and beyond. Get an inside look at a world ordinary members of the audience never see as you spend five days immersed in New York theater and in personal encounters with those who help create it.
