The meeting was called to order by President Jo Behymer. President Behymer thanked Sinclair Nursing for providing flu shots for MURA members before the meeting. She also thanked and introduced MURA Committee Chairpersons: Darlene Miles, Awards; Jean Zwonitzer, Membership Co-Chair; and G. B. Thompson, Holiday Lunch Coordinator.

President Behymer then introduced Chancellor Brady Deaton and acknowledged him for his participation in acquiring the retiree increase in pension. Chancellor Deaton gave a brief presentation on the University.

Program Chairman Kee Groshong introduced John Murry, one of the co-chairs of the United Way Campaign on the University Campus. 9-10 percent of United Way is contributed by MU retirees. Mr. Murry showed a film clip and had a brief presentation on the campaign.

Kee Groshong then introduced Ken Hutchinson, Vice-President of Human Resources. He thanked him for his assistance in obtaining the retiree pension increase and stated that Hutchinson would be retiring at the end of 2007.

  • University pension plan and stated that it is financially healthy.
  • He also said that the presidential search was going slower than had been anticipated. The committee is interested in non-traditional candidates.
  • No premium increases are expected for dental, vision or life insurance for 2008; no increases in deductibles or co-insurance.
  • Medical for retirees will have lower premiums
  • They are looking at Medicare Advantage which is a fee for service option which could be available next year.

At the close of Mr. Hutchinson’s presentation, President Behymer presented him with a MURA lifetime membership for him and his wife with thanks from MURA for all he has done for retirees.

Kee Groshong reminded attendees of the upcoming Holiday Luncheon; asking for nominations for the Chancellor’s award for faculty and staff; and a reminder to turn in survey of MURA interest groups.
