The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. in the Reynolds Center by President Charles Cramer. He introduced Tom Freeman, Program Chairman for introductions of programs.
Lori Franz, Interim Provost, gave a presentation on the state of the campus at MU. There are now 27,088 students.
Mike Paden, Associate VP for Employee/Retiree Benefits, gave a brief overview of MU's benefits, stating MU is in good financial condition on pension funds. Renatta Gallop has been appointed as Manager, Pension and Deferred Compensation. With projections of MU's contribution requirements, it is estimated to be 8.13% in 2006 and 9.06% in 2009. He stated there would be dramatic changes in health care benefits in 2006 with no changes for the 2007 with the exception of an increase in premiums.
Jenny Workman, Director of Health Connection in the Parkade Center, gave an overview of their services and invited everyone for a visit. Cost for MU retirees is $27/month.
John Parker, Director of Lifespan Learning Program stated there are 20 courses for this year. There will be a complimentary breakfast, registration and program on September 15th and an instructor appreciation dinner on November 4th for those interested.
Tom Freeman briefly told of the progress of the MU Recreation Center which will open @January 5, 2005 and the pools on May 31, 2005. Membership will be $29/month with free trials.
United Way letters are to be mailed @September 24th.
Business Meeting
The minutes of the March 24, 2004 meeting were approved as written.
Bob Marshall, Treasurer, had a handout which showed MURA checkbook balance as of June 30th at $6,696.67 and a summary of total assets at $46,543.08.
Charles Koelling, filling in for John Bauman, Chmn, asked for volunteers for the Benefits Committee.
The MURA website has been improved recently with a few changes to be made. President Cramer thanked Rebecca Calvin for her assistance in this endeavor.
Awards: Tom Brown stated 2005 will be the 15th year for Chancellor awards/luncheon. Anyone who retired before 2000 is eligible to be nominated for faculty or staff awards.
Program: Tom Freeman reviewed upcoming events listed in the agenda.
President Cramer noted that Suzanne Currence had recently resigned her position as a member of the MURA Board and she had served as MURA's representative to the Staff Council. A replacement will be appointed to serve until time of the next election.
