Meeting was called to order by President Groshong.
Retiree Contribution Survey – Rod Gelatt queried about having a survey of MU retiree’s contribution to the University. Several recommendations were discussed. Possibly mailing out a survey along with the invitation to the Chancellor’s lunch next spring and they could either bring to the lunch or mail back.
Minutes of the August 5, 2008 meeting were approved with the correction of one paragraph on meeting with the Chancellor.
Treasurer Report was distributed by Gary Zwonitzer. He will invest lifetime dues soon. He asked how often to submit a financial report and it was agreed that it should be every board meeting.
Membership – Ernest Hilderbrand distributed a listing of membership as of October 1 showing a total of 1,413 members with 647 of these being life members. He also distributed envelopes containing stationary and MURA applications for members who are contacting MU retirees who have never joined MURA.
The MURA membership directory is ready to go to the printer next week.
Program – Barton Boyle is trying to contact President Forsee to give a short presentation at the MURA Fall Informational meeting in November. The other presenters will be M. Paden, Chancellor Deaton and possibly the new Vice President for Resources and the Board of Curator’s President Bo Fraser. Jolene Schultz will discuss volunteering at the Youzeum. This meeting will be held in Jesse Wrench Auditorium in the Memorial Union.
The Holiday Luncheon is scheduled for December 13 at Stotler Lounge and the price has been raised to $24.50.
Faculty Council – Ed Hunvald reported they are discussing the possibility of education fee reduction that would apply to retiree’s spouses and dependents.
Staff Council – Libby Miederhoff reported this council met with MU’s new VP in HR to discuss agendas that include salary raises, job titles, and 85 and out retirement.
Breakfast Programs – John Parker said there were 67 in attendance at the last program. There are several more that are scheduled: Fred Spiegel on 2008 election and supreme court; Why people hate lawyers; and in December Larry Brown will have a program.
Interest Groups – It seems no one is interested in leading these interest groups per Jean Zwonitzer.
United Way – Retirees once again lead the contributions to this organization.
